Website Monitoring Checklist for Kenyan Businesses
Website monitoring should answer three questions: can customers use the site, can the business detect important problems, and does someone have responsibility for acting on what the monitors find?
More alerts do not automatically create more protection. Start with critical outcomes, choose an appropriate check for each one and define the response before an incident. The checklist below can be scaled from a small company website to a digital platform.
Availability and infrastructure
- Homepage and critical landing-page availability
- HTTP status and unusual response time
- SSL certificate validity and expiry
- Domain registration expiry and account ownership
- Authoritative nameserver and important DNS changes
- Hosting or application resource alerts where access is available
Customer journeys
- Contact, quotation and lead forms
- WhatsApp, phone and email links
- Booking or appointment flow
- Checkout and payment hand-off using safe test methods
- Sign-in, password reset and account creation where relevant
- Agreed API endpoints and third-party dependencies
Performance and experience
- Representative mobile and desktop pages
- Core Web Vitals field data when available
- Large images and page-weight changes
- Slow server responses and failed assets
- Unexpected layout shifts or interaction delays
- Regression after new scripts, plugins or content
Technical SEO health
- Indexability of important pages
robots.txt, XML sitemap and canonical consistency- Broken internal links and redirect chains
- Missing or duplicate page titles and descriptions
- Structured data validity and alignment with visible content
- Search Console indexing and performance signals with client access
Security and recovery
- Supported software versions and pending security updates
- Backup success and periodic restoration testing
- Administrative accounts and access changes

- Unexpected page or certificate changes
- Incident contacts and recovery procedure
Content and reputation

Define every monitor before enabling it
For each check, record the owner, frequency, expected result, alert threshold, escalation route and evidence required to close an incident. Decide how false positives are handled. This makes the monitoring system operable when the usual contact is unavailable.
Make the monthly report useful
Lead with business impact and actions: what failed, what changed, what was fixed and what decision is needed. Separate confirmed incidents from observations. Show trends rather than isolated numbers, and avoid presenting a proprietary “health score” as scientific certainty unless its calculation is clearly explained.
Review the checklist as the business changes
A new booking service, campaign landing page, payment provider or branch contact creates new dependencies. Update monitoring during release planning instead of waiting for the next monthly report.
